Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider that operates the tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. We do not keep or log those query terms on our servers.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email message when needed to answer it. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the server can receive basic technical details about that visit:
- Your device's IP address
- Browser type and version
- Operating system and device category
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- A referring website, when one is supplied
- The time of each page request
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. They help show aggregate traffic patterns, such as popular pages and common exit points. Analytics providers assist with that measurement. You may block cookies through the browser, although parts of the site can work differently afterward.

No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not build, hold, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Jefferson County material points readers toward the sheriff, the Birmingham and Bessemer courts, ALEA's Criminal Records Identification Unit, and the Alabama Sex Offender Registry. No visitor data is assembled into a consumer report or a record about another person, and this website is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the embedded search tools. Their privacy terms, retention choices, and disclosure rules govern information sent through those tools. Read the provider's policy before submitting a query because we do not control those practices.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to a sheriff, court, state agency, legal resource, or outside search provider. Once you leave our pages, the destination's privacy policy applies. Review it before providing personal data.
Advertising providers may also measure activity across websites to select ads. That processing occurs through their systems.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be received by:
- A search provider handling a query you submit
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Advertising networks serving content on the pages
- A public authority acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Standard safeguards are used for the data we receive. No internet system is completely secure, however, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied data, we will remove it.
Your Data Rights
Applicable law may provide rights over personal data. Alabama's Open Records Act governs public writings, while Ala. Code § 41-9-601 limits unauthorized acquisition or communication of protected criminal-history information. Subject to the law that applies, you may:
- Request access to personal data we hold about you
- Ask that inaccurate data be corrected
- Seek deletion where the law permits it
